Island Alpaca Seeks Barn Manager

Unique and an Exciting Opportunity!

Farm Manager wanted for a Martha's Vineyard alpaca farm specializing in high quality breeding and fiber alpacas. Island Alpaca Co. is looking for a hard-working, highly motivated and organized individual with initiative, creativity, and terrific communication skills to manage barn/farm activities. 30+ hours per week.

Island Alpaca Co. is home to an alpaca herd on 19 acres, with 56 alpaca and 3 cria due, 2016. We are a multi-faceted business with a farm store, an annual Shearing Day Event and Neonatal Birthing Clinic and ongoing Alpaca Discovery Programs for the visiting public. We are open to the public every day, year-round and in the summer welcome over 1000 visitors on a weekly basis. An exciting opportunity for someone who is a self-starter with a strong work ethic that wants to help achieve business goals in a demanding, yet positive work environment.

Experience with alpacas preferred. Exposure to farming or livestock operations is helpful with the willingness to become educated and proficient in the care and sale of alpacas. Alpacas are unique and we are willing to train the right person with a positive attitude, initiative and problem solving skills.

Duties include:

Daily care of alpacas, including herd health management and maintenance and meticulous record keeping. Herd health management includes routine medical care, breeding, birthing and intensive care if needed.

Pasture management, and oversight on farm/barn repair and maintenance, safety concerns.

Sales and Marketing as well as business development skills are essential to the success of our operation, to include but not limited to our social networks (such as Face Book and Twitter), and web-portals (such as Open Herd, Alpaca Nation, AOA, and Alpaca Street)
