1st place for Codeblue's First Cria!

Rosebud

Rosebud

We were so thrilled to hear that Codeblue's first cria received a 1st place at the Virginia Classic! She is looking more and more like her beautiful daddy..and, the first AND second cria (a multi) are both girls.

He is expecting another cria here out of our Kimberly and will be bred to at least 3 more girls here this spring. He will also be bred to a couple of girls from another farm here in NC this Spring...so, keep your eyes out for his further crias. His breeding fee is still $500.00...a steal for what he is producing. His price will be going up after we see is he continues to produce and so far all females.

Picture is very fuzzy. Will try to find get a better one soon!

Thanks for looking.

Wow! It's been a long time

Dinnertime!

Dinnertime!

IT is amazing how fast time flies when you are busy with the farm, family and work. We have been busy here on the farm, going to festivals (a first for us in 2014), adding a run-in shed for our junior boys, seeing two beautiful new boy crias born, and anticipating the first birth of a Codeblue baby on our farm in April with another birth of his half-sister's cria, Rebecca following in June.

Lots of breeding will be going on over the next few months...Becca going to rebreed to Balboa here in NC as she slipped her first pregnancy...breeding several of our girls to Codeblue, adding a new herdsire from A Prairie Lakes Alpaca farm in June to exclusively breed to a few of our girls. In the meantime he is on their show string after taking a first in Get of Sire at CAC. Hope to have pictures to post soon.

We have seriously cut prices on some of our lovely animals...so, please check us out...we are more concerned that our sweet pacas go to a good home than they bring us a ton of money...so, they are priced to sell to GOOD homes that love their pacas as much as we do ours...more later.

In the meantime; a few pictures of our recent births and in the show ring and the first "just for fun" picture.

Thanks for looking!

Code Blue's girl has arrived

Codeblue's Rosebud

Codeblue's Rosebud

Code Blue is now a daddy, and we could not be more thrilled. He has a beautiful grey female cria born at Shepherds Creek Alpacas.

She is gorgeous. His breeding fee is still set at $500 until he has a few more cria on the ground; so, add grey to your breeding program as he is ready to fill his dance card for this fall.

Jax has a new cria.

Jax and a new boy

Jax and a new boy

Jax, purchase from Wild Roses Suri Farm and bred to Allegiance has given us a gorgeous boy cria. Ar 19.4 pounds at birth; he was a sight to behold. With his regale bearing and golden, lustrous fleece; we decided to name him Charlemagne in honor of the French king of the 7th century.

You will see more of this boy as soon as he is old enough for the ring.

We are breeding Jax back to our very own Code Blue.

Spirit of the Industry Award for Code Blue

Jumping for Joy!

Jumping for Joy!

We were honored and thrilled to discover that Code Blue had been awarded the "Spirit of the Industry" award at 2013 VOABA. This is a coveted and special award given to those animals whose fleece retains it fineness as they age. To sum it up; our Code Blue is getting older; but, his fleece is not!

That is what ALL breeders want to know as they make decisions to breed their animals for the next generation. Our Code Blue is just starting his breeding career, having settled 3 females this Fall. We are anxiously awaiting the results of those breedings.

Stay tuned for Fall 2014 crias and then decide how he might further your grey suri breeding program.

VAOBA - 2013

1st for Perseus in his first show

1st for Perseus in his first show

Perseus attended his first show this past weekend in Virginia - Yearling Halter - We are proud to announce that he took a 1st in his class. Way to go boy! The judge had some very nice comments including: Great regrowth since shearing, nice Suri phenotype, beautiful luster and locks down to the skin, consistent across the blanket. It is a shame he did not have more competition.

We agree! We love the judges comments as we know we are on track with our breeding program; but, we really hope to see more competition for him in February at CABO. If you are a SURI breeder...we need you!

In the fleece category; our guys did really well as well. The results are as follows:

Jacobite - Spin-Off 2013 1st -
Jacobite - Cottage Fleece 2013 2nd
Shephred's Creek Peruvian Rebecca Fleece Competition 2013 1st
WLK Code Blue Fleece Competition 2013 - 1st
AND a special, coveted award for him: The Spirit of the Fleece Industry award which awards continuing fineness in fleece in an animal as they age...WOOHOO!

Andy Murray Fleece Competition 2013 - 4th

Tristram Spin-Off 2013 1st
Tristram Cottage Fleece - 2nd

A blue ribbon for Satya

1st- Satya at Tennessee Waltz

1st- Satya at Tennessee Waltz

I forgot to post that our girl Satya took a blue ribbon at the Tennessee Waltz for her gorgeous fleece. She is an amazing girl who we are breeding right now to our very own Fibergenix Wasseton. We bought him to breed to a few of our girls who have awesome fleece and we wanted to make certain the male did them justice. Wasseton, at 7-years of age, has retained his fineness and fiber stats in an amazing way:

21.2 AFD
4.7 SD
19.2 CV

WOW! Talk about lingering fineness....anxious to see what a lovely cria they will give us.

Becca is Pregnant

Her lovely face

Her lovely face

Our beautiful harlequin girl, Peruvian Rebecca, has been up at Victoria Lane Alpacas, being bred to the one-and-only Balboa.

I received an email from Karen this week letting me know she was indeed pregnant. We are very excited about this cria. Everyone knows Balboa's reputation. It speaks for itself. What is unknown is this gorgeous gem here on Beach Run Farm...with a couple of ribbons on her show career; it was time to begin breeding her.

Be on the lookout for a Fall 2014 cria from this match. It should be a beauty!

Code Blue hit it out of the park - 4 Times!

Award-winning Codeblue

Award-winning Codeblue

Our award-winning herdsire; Codeblue, has been off settling his first females at Shepherd's Creek Alpacas! Thanks Barb! :) It took him a while to get started; but, once he did; he has bred 5 females this season. One is definitely pregnant, and we are waiting to hear if the others will be spitting off soon.

This is a boy that had a fantastic show career with two banners, including one Color Champion Banner, from 2011 Futurity. Check him out on our site here on Open Herd and get the very low starter rate for this first boy that will be in place until those cria are on the ground. We then anticipate his breeding fee will definitely go up...

A New Purchase coming soon...Bella & Belviso

Bella and Belviso

Bella and Belviso

Soon we will welcome a new huacaya girl, Bella, and her son, Belviso to our farm. They are currently residing at Brandilyn Farm in Michigan while Bella is being bred again. When she is ready to travel in early January; we will be bringing them here to join our growing herd of Huacayas and Suris.

Bella is a beautiful dark brown girl, and Belviso is everything we had hoped for in a little huacaya boy...

More to come about this pair!
